Hi there, future employer.
My name is Sydney Planka and I'm from Houston, Texas. I am a recent Texas State University graduate. I have a Bachelor's degree consisting of an Advertising major along with a Women's Studies minor. I have always loved being a creative and exploring new thresholds. Advertising is a field I knew I would be able to express my creativity in and turn it into something tangible to inspire others. My minor has allowed for me to dive deep within myself and explore what feminism and being a woman means to me. Working alongside other creative people is the fuel to my fire. My journey through college has allowed me to explore my creativity on a new level and I am thrilled to see where this new journey takes me. If the stars align... I will be your next prodigy!
My Story
Since I was younger, I always imagined life to be a movie. I would perform songs to myself and my crowd of one, my dog, Bella. I would leave a movie and act as if I was apart of it when I walked it which would continue through the evening. I would dance to songs in my room like I was at a concert (something I still do now, good for the soul.) Watching red carpets and observing their fancy outfits they would only wear once. I had always been intrigued by the idea of performing and the entertainment industry. There was a certain twinkle in everyone's eye, doing what they love. I had always dreamt about being a model or actor since I was young. Now, I believe I can do anything I put my mind and effort to, so nothing is that out of reach. Since dreaming big as a kid, it has helped me to just go after what I want to achieve and do. I have always loved fashion and the process of putting pieces together and different fabrics. I have always said I want to work in front of and behind the camera. When I was sixteen, I was in a furniture store when a lady had asked me to model for her vintage line. That is when I started to think, "Wow, you know, I could actually do this." I've built a stronger relationship with modeling as I have been building my portfolio through an agency for a few years and freelancing. It is something that feels liberating and freeing to me, like acting and dancing all in one. I've shot for local Austin vintage stores, friends, photographers, and most recently a local Austin based magazine called GLAZE.
Through modeling, I have been able to tap into my creative side with other hobbies as well. I enjoy writing, painting, and making beaded items. I chose to pursue my college career in advertising to further push my creative self and confidence. I love starting from scratch then being able to see the work in the campaign projects. Through college, I have met a variety of creative minds who have only helped me on my creative journey. From professors, to peers, classmates, and friends I have made along the way. Creatives seem to find each other and build something beautiful. That's why I try to show up every day with an open mind and heart. Ready to receive what the world has to offer.
